NTHU Cover Story (2011/08/12) Assistant Professor Cho-ying LI at the institute of History, National Tsing Hua University, published a very original paper in the field of history of East Asian Science and Medicine, which was recognized by the International Society for the History of East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine and received Zhu Kezhen Award at the society's 2011 congress in Hefei, Anhui Province, China between July 25 and 29. The award is issued to only one winner every three years. Cho-ying LI expressed that he would like to dedicate the award to his family, teachers, colleagues and students, especially to his deceased father Mr. Jue-min LI (李覺敏).

Cho-ying LI obtained his Havard PhD title in East Asia Languages and Civilizations in 2007. After his postdoctoral research in the Department of Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore, he joined the Institute of History, National Tsing Hua University in 2008. His paper “Contending Strategies, Collaboration among Local Specialists and Officials, and Hydrological Reform in the Late-Fifteenth-Century Lower Yangzi Delta” published in East Asian Science, Technology and Society: an International Journal (2010) received the recommendation of the noted expert in history of Chinese Agriculture Professor Francesca BRAY, University of Edinburgh, and obtained the award.

Cho-ying LI said, the paper investigate how the creative collaboration among the local irrigationists and officials resulted in the success of the hydrological reform in the late-fifteenth-century Lower Yangzi Delta. The research was sponsored by National Tsing Hua University. The Chinese translation will be included in Zhonghua Book Company in Peking's series Environment ‧ Society in 2012.

The Zhu Kezhen Award and the Zhu Kezhen Junior Award were both established in 2002 through the generosity of the Institute for the History of Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences to honor the noted scholar late Kezhen ZHU, who was a Harvard educated meteorologist, and an eminent researcher and educator in modern Chinese history. He served as the President of Zhejiang University for 13 years (1936 – 1949) and selected as Academia Sinica's Academician in 1948.
